Landing Page Size Guide 2022: Ideal Page Size?

By | Updated on

Landing pages have already proven to convert better than regular web pages, but there is always room for improvement.

Typically, a checklist for improving the conversion rate of a landing page is humongous, but in this post, we’re focusing on landing page size.

  • How long should a landing page be? What size should it be?
  • Which performs better, long or short pages?
  • When to use long landing pages and when short ones?
  • How big should landing page images be?

Have similar questions? In this post, I’ll try to help you find the answer so that you can build an effective landing page for your marketing campaign.

Before you jump into landing page depth and size, you need to know why landing page size is crucial.

Landing Page Size: Why Should You Care?

Studies show that long-form landing pages convert better than short ones, but how long can they be?

It seems reasonable to add more copy to your landing page since it helps your audience understand your product better.

However, it’s a two-edged sword.

Adding more words to something can complicate it further.

As you add more content, the page size increases. Studies have shown that every additional second of page load time results in a 4.42% decline in conversion.

Hence, you should avoid cluttering your landing page with too much text, images, and videos. So the bottom line is “Less Is More” whether it’s a landing page copy or a landing page size.

What Is The Ideal Landing Page Size?

It’s hard to say because many factors can influence the length and size of a landing page.

A landing page’s size can be affected by several factors, including:

  • The industry you are in
  • Your targeted audience
  • Keywords
  • Type of product you are promoting
  • And many more unseen factors

Therefore, there is no right answer. You must figure it out for yourself.

It’s wise to analyze your competitors, make use of analytics tools, and always A/B test your landing pages.

When Should You Use a Long-form Landing Page Versus a Short one?

Landing pages with long or short forms both have their merits and detractors. The type of landing page you choose depends entirely on what you are trying to accomplish.

When To Use a Long Landing Page?

Use long-form landing pages when you are trying to:

  •  Lead Nurturing
  • To build trust
  • If you want laser-focused quality leads

Visitors who read all of your landing page sections and take action based on the information on the page are more likely to become customers.

You can use long-form landing pages in your Top-of-Funnel (TOFU) and Middle-of-Funnel (MOFU) strategies.

Furthermore, long-form landing pages are great for generating sales through PPC ads, but it depends on the keyword intent.

When To Use a Shorter Landing Page?

A shorter landing page a good to go with when:

  • You are running a lead generation campaign
  • Promoting an offer (people should be aware of your product)

Landing pages, especially lead generation pages, may convert better due to free lead magnets, but you can’t say much about the quality of the leads.

Shorter landing pages convert better when your audience is at the Bottom-of-Funnel (BOFU).

What are the Ideal Dimensions of a Landing Page?

I find it hard to accept that 50% of landing pages aren’t optimized for small screens despite having responsive landing page builders on the market.

So, below you will find information about screen resolution that will help you understand how most people surf the web.

Desktop Landing Page Dimensions:

These days, desktops and laptops come in different screen sizes & resolutions, so they can vary from device to device.

According to the data from the previous year, most users are using desktops with resolutions of 1920×1080.

Therefore, when designing the landing page, try to keep the resolution at least 1280 pixels. As we use responsive page-building tools, it will automatically adjust to smaller screen sizes.

Tablet Landing Page Dimensions:

According to Statcounter, 40.4% of tablet users use a screen resolution of 1024 by 768. Therefore, a web page design with a size of 1024 by 768 should be suitable for tablet users.

What Should be Landing Page Image Size?

Images with high visual appeal encourage content consumption, which can lead to conversions. Meanwhile, too-large & unoptimized images can harm your conversion rate.

Although there are no thumb rules for ideal image sizes for landing pages, the study by Unbounce found that pages with oversized images of 1MB+ can reduce conversions by 1.6%.

Image size vs conversion rates Landing page size

Therefore, try to reduce the number of images as much as possible.

However, there may be cases in which images need to be added. Use the image optimization tools to compress images.

These days, most landing page creators have inbuilt image compressors, so you don’t have to do anything in that case.

Final Thoughts

Conversion is the ultimate goal of any landing page, whether it’s in a form of a lead or a sale. With the information above, you can understand what landing pages to use when to use them & what size should be used for different devices.

Well, there is no set of rules that will guarantee higher conversions. But I’m confident you will see some improvement in your conversion rate if you implement some of the landing page practices I’ve provided above.
