Getting link exchange requests are common nowadays. People keep pitching emails and messages for exchanging Backlinks.
In Case You don’t know what is Link Exchange:
Link exchange is considered as a link building strategy where one person asks another person to place the link to his site and in return, he will do the same.
Even I am also getting such emails and even FaceBook messages. People keep asking:
Hey, Are you interested in link exchange?
Hi Admin, I have read your post and I found it helpful could you please link to my post I will link back to your post.
It’s True that,
To get higher rankings on search engines writing good content is just not enough. You have to do proper keyword research and find the low competition keywords with high search volumes.
And after publishing the post you have to build high-quality backlinks because backlinks are one of the major ranking factors.
And if you are getting such emails/messages and don’t know how to respond them.
Then read this post and you will get a clear vision after reading this post.
Google count backlinks as an upvote and more backlinks mean higher result in Google SERPs.
If you want to get higher rankings and increase your site’s authority in eyes of Google than getting backlinks are must for your blog.
And Link exchange schemes are the easiest and fastest way to getting backlinks.
2. Can drive traffic to your blog:
If relevant links are placed on high authority sites than nothing could be better than that.
You can get insane amount of targeted traffic that can crash your site.
I have never seen a reputed Blogger asking for link exchange.
When you get backlinks from a site (specially do-follow) than it will pass some link juice and as a result, you can see an increase in your Domain and Page Authority.
And Backlinks from high authority sites then it would be going to help you more.
Google has some quality guidelines for the webmasters. Google in his/her guidelines states that:
Any links that are intended to manipulate Page ranks and ranking of sites are considered as part of link exchange schemes and if you are doing so then you are violating Google’s Webmaster’s guidelines.
This includes any behavior that manipulates links to your site or outgoing links from your site.
- Buying or selling links that pass PageRank. This includes exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links; exchanging goods or services for links, or sending someone a “free” product in exchange for them writing about it and including a link.
- Excessive link exchanges (“Link to me and I’ll link to you”) or partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking.
- Large-scale article marketing or guest posting campaigns with keyword-rich anchor text links.

In case Google found you are indulged in link exchange scheme than Google can stop you loving and can drop your sites rankings. As a result, you will found a decrease in organic traffic.
Are you doing the link exchange?
If you are following link exchange scheme should not worry if it is not overdone.
After getting the link exchange request you should not act blindly. The first thing you should consider is the Niche. If both the blog has the same niche then you can move ahead.
If your niche is different then there is no need to agree on link exchange because it will not be going to benefit your blog.
For example: If your niche is technology and you get a backlink from health niche then what would be the use of that.
Why would health niche readers read your posts? So You should agree on the same niche and relevant link.
2. DA, PA & Spam Score:
DA and PA are metrics of Moz which are abbreviated as Domain Authority and Page Authority. Check your PA and DA: Here
You should check Da and PA of the site where your link is going to be placed. If a site has high PA & DA then it is good for your site.
You should also check the Spam score of the site. If spam score is high then it means the site is spammy and can be penalized anytime. So you should stay away from that kind of sites.
Type of links also plays an important role. You should ask from another blogger are you providing a No-follow link or Do-follow link.
Search engines do not crawl No-follow links and they don’t pass any link juice.
You need not ask about the page or post where your blog link is going to be placed. You should check: Is he
Is he providing a relevant link or just pasting the link which is created especially for link exchanges.
You also need to take a closer look at the site where he is going to place a link. There are chances he asks link for Site A and places your link on Site B.
The last thing you have to ask that person is time for which links are going to be placed.
Both of you should agree on a specific time. If the link is going to be placed for a lifetime then it is good. You need to trust each other.
If you want to exchange link to increase the authority of your site then you should consider these 5 tips I have shared with you above.
But personally, I would not recommend to indulged in link exchange schemes. You should not consider link exchange as a primary link building strategy.
If you overdo it and get caught it would not be beneficial to you and your blog.
You should focus on quality, not on quantity. Once you start creating quality content peoples will automatically link back to you.
